2012 Resort Refurbishment
We did it!
Lolomas and happy tears flowed as our five week refurbishment came to an end.
The new ‘Malua’, or ‘quiet pool’, adjoining bar and Jacuzzi are designed for adult enjoyment and will be the most obvious improvement to the eye. However this redevelopment represented only 30% of the entire project undertaken during the five week closure. Gentle, natural enhancements to the resort’s major common areas have added new space and enhanced facilities to ensure our guests enjoy holiday fun and relaxation for many more years to come.
After a lot of market intelligence (i.e. listening to your valued opinions!) we realised the need for two separate pool areas – one pool designed for quiet adult enjoyment, perfect for relaxation-hungry adults and a family pool for fun and laughter in a safe, friendly environment – and the outcome is spectacular, delivering two new and distinctly different pool areas.

- Massive sails providing shady surrounds
- A great bar & grill – mocktails, cocktails and changing menu specialties
We’ve also refurbished our iconic Sundowner Bar and made substantial enhancements to our dining and back of house areas.
And this three million dollar project was completed in just five weeks!

“We arrived with our kids and our 4 grandchildren aged 7 to 15 and were all so excited, the water taxi driver wondered why we were all jumping up and down. We could immediately see the wonderful changes, but in a subtle way. I’m in the hospitality industry and understand the constraints of access and time to make change; its just amazing what they’ve achieved at Castaway in such an isolated environment in just 5 weeks. They’ve just excelled themselves. None of the staff did the work they normally do. Chefs were mixing concrete, band members were laying fibreglass on tanks, housekeepers were re-potting plants and everyone was helping out with the laboring or gardening and so on. I’ve really enjoyed talking to the staff and asking them what part of Castaway did they improve. The staff are so proud of what they have done. We couldn’t stop saying ‘wow look at this’ as we walked around the resort and saw all the improvements, especially the stunning new pool.
