We’re back to normal! Smoooooooth sailing!

Castaway Island, Fiji is pleased to report that all resort operations are normal.

We sustained no damage as a result of the recent adverse weather conditions you may have been hearing about on the news.

Resort transfers from the mainland to Castaway Island are operating to schedule.

As always, we have plenty of beautiful food, clean drinking water, miles of smiles from our Castaway family of staff and the waters are warm and calm.

You should have no need to be concerned that your holiday vacation will be adversely impacted in any way as a result of the weather in the last two days of March and 01 April, 2012.

We did it!

Lolomas and happy tears flowed as our five week refurbishment came to an end.

The new ‘Malua’, or ‘quiet pool’, adjoining bar and Jacuzzi are designed for adult enjoyment and will be the most obvious improvement to the eye. However this redevelopment represented only 30% of the entire project undertaken during the five week closure.  Gentle, natural enhancements to the resort’s major common areas have added new space and enhanced facilities to ensure our guests enjoy holiday fun and relaxation for many more years to come.

After a lot of market intelligence (i.e. listening to your valued opinions!) we realised the need for two separate pool areas – one pool designed for quiet adult enjoyment, perfect for relaxation-hungry adults and a family pool for fun and laughter in a safe, friendly environment – and the outcome is spectacular, delivering two new and distinctly different pool areas.

I’m in the hospitality industry and understand the constraints of access and time to make change; its just amazing what they’ve achieved at Castaway in such an isolated environment in just 5 weeks.  They’ve just excelled themselves.  None of the staff did the work they normally do.  Chefs were mixing concrete, band members were laying fibreglass on tanks, housekeepers were re-potting plants and everyone was helping out with the laboring or gardening and so on.  I’ve really enjoyed talking to the staff and asking them what part of Castaway did they improve.  The staff are so proud of what they have done.  We couldn’t stop saying ‘wow look at this’ as we walked around the resort and saw all the improvements, especially the stunning new pool.

Stayed on a small island for our honeymoon (Daydream Island in Whitsundays). Wanted to revisit for our 25th anniversary but it had become “modernised ” and was now just another big hotel resort So Googled fiji islands, then booked through My Fiji travel agents. Our first trip to Fiji was in 1997 with our then teen-age daughters. We took a Blue Lagoon cruise and then spent some time on the Coral Coast. First came when I was 10 and remember it being the best holiday. Became a travel agent and came back on an educational in 1999, Lingo showed us a good time! Been back the last 8 years with my own family and the kids cry everytime we leave! It truly is the most relaxing holiday….the staff are amazing, it’s like they’re welcoming you into their home. The food is exceptional, thanks Chef! As a travel agent I always sway people’s decisions to go to Castaway but often have issues with availability cause you have to book months in advance. I really should be exploring other places but when you’re onto a good thing you can stop – it’s addictive. See you all in September!

once while we were in Fiji we went on an island hoping trip and visited Castaway and asked our travel agent about it, so some recommendation as well.

A school friend posted photos and raved about her 3rd visit and the fact that she had immediately rebooked for next new years. A few days later and after about 10 Facebook messages were exchanged between us, I had booked for this Xmas/new years as well. Your repeat customers are your most incredible asset and they advertise for free!

Researched for about a year on net and trip advisor. The big draw card for us was hygiene as we had heard stories from food poisoning in other parts of Fiji. The fact that chef lance seemed to be introducing a more organic menu along with modern food preparation was a big draw card as it seemed castaway was making big advances over any other island. Also the de-salination plant enabling to drink the islands water. Trip advisor reviews were better than any other island, and it seemed the best place to take children. Small enough but also a bit classier than the others. We came for our first trip last year and are booked in again this year, it’s the best holiday we’ve been on, special family time where we can’t find anywhere else. Keep up the great work. I too have done the whitsundays and it or the ocean does not compare to Fiji. The happiness of the people x

It’s 30 years ago that we first went to Castaway. I seem to remember we were staying at Plantation and did a boat trip to Castaway, and decided next time it would be Castaway.

Hi we were recommended Castaway by friends who had been their on a day visit. We had our first trip in 2010 with our son and their family. Last year we came back again with another family of 4 in tow. This year we will be back for our third trip and we are bring the same group but with 3 extra adults. We loved it so much we tell everyone that they need to visit you. Can’t wait till end of May when we get to share your lovely island and become part of your family.

One of our extra’s on this trip is gluten free and I have assured him that he will have plenty of food choice – even the sushi! Especially if soya sauce not used to bind the rice.

My family and I are going to have our 3rd year in a row at castaway island, we chose your beautiful island as I had been many times with my family when I was a child. They were the best holidays I ever had and could not wait to bring my own family there! We will be there in november and this year my brother and his family will be joining us! You have the best location, the best staff by far, the best food (go lance) the best cocktail maker (Katrina), the best rooms and an all round feeling if being in a second home! Where else can you form friendships with staff and they actually remember your name when you come back year after year!  There is no better place, castaway = perfection!

Recommendations by numerous friends. A friend of ours, Diane Lanz is the Australian promoter and is a great walking, talking advertisement for Castaway. I think most of Northern Sydney is buzzing over Castaway – and it’s well worth it too!

We are from Sydney and comming with another family from Melbourne my girl friend and I checked the nett for island both came up with castaway because we did not want 3 star or 5 star the trip advisor was very help full then when booking we could get meal deal and with chef lance there the food was 5 star wonderful staff 1off the best holidays we only seen kids at meal times thank you.

Actually – just wanted to add. We always recommend Castaway to friends…those that use Trip Advisor always ask about the food because there are some bad reviews re food on there and my answer is always the same – I can’t imagine how there would be bad reviews about the food on Castaway – it is fabulous, fresh and the water is great. It makes me wonder if some of those ‘reviews’ are a bit dodgy! Luckily people listen to me and book anyway

Firstly, we saw Castaway in a travel brochure, and then we were sold on the place. We had two daughters, you had staff who loved kids. You had a beautiful island, we lived in a city. We came, and returned and returned and returned for a period covering almost 28 years. We fell in love not only with Castaway, but with the Castaway Family, many of whom are still on the island. We brought our friends, our sons-in-law our grandson. Castaway gave us its heart and in return we lost ours. Vinaka Castaway for the best holiday destination in the entire world. The Resort’s menus cater very well for those who suffer food intolerances.

Most menus are gluten-free as standard, plus there are plenty of GF options – including Pizza, breakfast pancakes/bread/cereals, pasta and more!   Many people with CD (Coeliac Disease) and gluten/wheat intolerances enjoy our food .

Our Chef, Lance Seeto, is currently writing a book on the Fijian lifestyle and diet. The resort kitchen’s have benefited from this research as he sources some of the best local and Australian organic and toxin-free produce in the world.  He is also in contact with one of the top immunologists on Coeliac Disease, Professor Bob Anderson at Melbourne’s Eliza Hall Institute who has helped him understand why it would be rare for native Fijians to develop CD and has explained there has been an increase in CD diagnoses in recent years.

 Our wedding on Castaway Island was like a dream come true.  The beauty of the island was just magical, and it was the perfect setting for a tropical, relaxed wedding.  The Castaway staff really made all the difference though.  We were so well looked after, right from the minute we stepped foot on the sand.  They were all so personable and did everything in their power to please us and make our wedding everything we ever imagined.  They felt like family by the time we left, it was so sad to say goodbye to everyone.  Standing there saying our vows in the most beautiful setting we could have ever pictured took our breath away.  It was almost like we had to pinch ourselves it was just that amazingly stunning.  Our guests had the most memorable time and all said it was the best wedding they had ever been to.  They too were so well taken care of by the Castaway family.  All we could talk about was when we could all go back to holiday there again!   The accommodation, the service, the food, the floral arrangements, the choir, the cake, the table decorations, the wedding co-ordinators were all 5 star.  We would recommend Castaway Island as a wedding location to anyone thinking of a small, stress free wedding that they will fondly remember for the rest of their lives.

Special mention to Mandi Forrester-Jones at Small Guide Travel – Mandi recommended the island to us as a location for our wedding.  Mandi co-ordinated everything for us, and also for all of our guests – from the travel arrangements to all the wedding details.  All we needed to do was get on a plane with the rings and wedding dress!  I don’t know what we would have done without her, she was amazing!  Thank you so much Mandi, I would highly recommend you to anyone looking to do an island style wedding.

Family fun for everyone! Castaway Island, Fiji has visitors returning year after year with their families and extended family members. Many of our return guests consider it their second home.

Family Accommodation – Traditional Fiji Accommodation in a Bure (Bungalow)

Fiji Accommodation consists of traditional thatched roof bures (bungalows). The island has four different types of bures scattered throughout the resort. Beach, Island, Garden and Family. Family Meals – Our famous Meal Deal – The longer the stay the greater the value!

Family meal times on Castaway are the most relaxing meal times you’ll ever experience! Dinner time on Castaway starts from 5.30pm at the Water’s edge restaurant and the kiddies can simply wander up to the buffet and choose from a huge variety of ‘kid friendly’ food. We find the routine is either Mum or Dad arrive with them and have a relaxing drink while they watch the little ones eat. After dinner the kiddies scuttle off to kids club with their baby sitter or, age permitting, on their own to meet up with their island friends ready for crab hunting and other fun night games. Mum and Dad then enjoy a beautiful dinner together under the stars until it is ready to pick up the kiddies after dinner. Some nights you’ll find fun activities happening at around 9.00 that all the family can enjoy.  Throughout different times of the year we have on offer our famous “Meal Deal”. Imagine a Kid’s club that’s open from 9.00am until 9.00pm every day with only a few breaks in between? While the kids are entranced at Kids Club parents can dive into loads of island activities – scuba diving, snorkelling, island touring, deep sea fishing, surfing and more – or simply find a hammock and tuck into that book you’ve been dying to read.
